About me
Sarah-Ann Wijngaarden has had the joy of working as a LINC Instructor at Archway Community Services in Abbotsford, BC since early 2023. She has supported instructors and learners in the Literacy level up to CLB 4, but currently works in-person supporting one and teaching two Literacy/CLB 1 classes. Sarah-Ann began her professional journey with EAL in 2016 teaching English conversation classes at the Cegep level in Quebec. While there, her passion for French and English coincided beautifully through a variety of projects and work, notably co-authoring the bilingual manual À la recherche 2: A Resource Manual for ESL Monitors in Québec Cégeps for the Council of Ministers of Education, Canada (CMEC). When she returned to the West Coast, her interest in the intersection of language and culture led to a Research Assistant position with the University of the Fraser Valley and the Queen’s University in Belfast’s photovoice project Images of Newcoming, which has greatly impacted how she teaches. With a deep appreciation for her prior experiences of teaching and learning, Sarah-Ann strives to foster a classroom culture of respect, resilience, and creativity. She understands the obstacles digital resources and platforms can present for Literacy learners and instructors alike and is excited to share practical strategies that have worked well in her own classroom.
